We have crowned a new champion!!! Paper Mill Pounders has emerged victorious from the 2025 GPO Golf League Playoffs! But let’s not forget the other competitors that made it to the final week. Not Scottie Shrepf-ler (2nd), Par-Tee Girls (3rd) and Poohf (4th) deserve congratulations, as well.
What a great season! Thanks to everyone who participated. For the first time we had teams drop out in the middle of the season for various reasons. It made things interesting, but I think we handled it pretty well.

Week 1 of the Playoffs – Wildcard Round
It was an exciting round of matches! We had two ties that were settled on the first playoff hole. Another match came down to the last hole. The one anticlimactic spot was that one group did not show for their match. Disappointing, but it gave The Sod Slayers a free pass into the second round of the playoffs. To their credit, they played hard and, unfortunately for Andy, it cost him 1 handicap point for the next round. That deserves respect and kudos. Andy don’t know how to cruise!
Week 2 of the Playoffs – Quarterfinals
Another good week…for the top seeds, anyway. All four of the top seeds moved on. Our 1 seed, Paper Mill Pounders had a close call but was able to close out the 12 seed, The Bogey Men, on the first playoff hole. The other three pretty much sailed through with either a 14-6 or 13-7 victory. I know first hand that the 13-7 win by the Schrepf’s over Love of the Game (Keith/Chris) was over after 7 holes where Brandon Schrepf just dominated, winning 5 holes over a 6 hole stretch with 5 birdies/net birdies. Way to play Brandon! In another match, Dwain Wuerfel shot a 38 to propel Poohf into the semifinals. Next week we start the money (gift certificate) rounds! Let’s go!
Week 3 of the Playoffs – Semifinals
Top seeds rule! The Paper Mill Pounders (Drew/Marcel) dominated in their half of the bracket with a 15-5 victory over Poohf! (Dwain/David.) The other semifinal match between Not Scottie Schrepf-ler (Mick/Brandon) and Par-Tee Girls (Katy/Lisa) was much closer with the Schrepf’s edging the “Girls” by a 12-8 margin. It was discovered that Lisa’s handicap dropped from 12 to 11 by a margin of 0.012 points and that extra point would have forced a tie and extra holes. Tough break but that is life in the league. Great match!
Looking forward to the Championship and Consolation matches where both Mick and Brandon dropped a handicap point, Brandon by a mere 0.034 points. Deja vu all over again? We’ll see. Drew is trying to finally break through and take the Championship after two good runs. The consolation match between Par-Tee Girls and Poohf! will determine the 3rd and 4th place team. Ought to be a very good match.
Hope everyone will come out and play or just pay their green fees and follow one of the matches. Hope to see a good group out there!
Week 4 of the Playoffs – Championship
We have a Champion team for Summer 2025 and they are Drew Kressin and Marcel Mullet otherwise known as the Paper Mill Pounders. It was a close match with Mick and Brandon and one stroke either way could have made the difference. The other match was more one-sided. Katy and Lisa were able to play complimentary golf and kept the pressure on Dwain and David for the whole match. It was a good week. Thanks to all the folks who showed up to support our league and the championship round.
Games Within the Game
The Hole in 1 Pot is at $770. We will extend the Hole in 1 competition into the playoffs, but you must pay in cash each week. So, bring your $1’s and your $5’s for the CTP because I won’t be making change!. Since there are only 4 teams in the final 2 weeks, the pickings might be slim, but I, for one will be throwing my $5 in the pot. Dunno though, because the CTP pot for week 3 was $75.
For the playoffs, there will be no Tee Busters.
If you didn’t make the playoffs, remember that you are welcome to come out and play 9 with the league. Please let the Commish know you want to play and feel free to challenge other teams.
